Sandwich is a great place to build your career. It’s growing, financially sound, and a place where people are concerned about your professional growth. The environment combines the advantages of small town living within easy reach of major urban areas.

Sandwich Community Unit School District 430 covers approximately 52 square miles and is located in northern Illinois about 30 miles southeast of DeKalb and about 60 miles west of Chicago. The district contains two incorporated communities: Sandwich (6600+) and Millington (450+).

A comprehensive shopping center, an attraction to trading communities within a 25-mile radius, and four banks serve the area. The citizens and area doctors have established a modern community hospital. The district includes an agricultural base with some of the best farmland in the state.

Indian Valley Vocational Center (IVVC) offers students from 11 area schools the opportunity to learn realistic work skills and ethics in a work-like setting to better determine future goals and career decisions. Some of the programs include automotive repair, construction, computer repair, cosmetology, drafting, early childhood education, fire science, food service, graphics, health occupations, law enforcement, office careers, sports management, and welding.

The Sandwich Park District includes sports programs and arts and crafts activities. Also, the park district hosts numerous trips to ballparks, shows, and other recreational sites.

The DeKalb County Special Education Association (DCSEA) is a joint agreement between the eight school districts in DeKalb. The DCSEA provides special education services for children residing in DeKalb County and have been identified as having a disability as defined in Article 14 of the Illinois School Code.

The Sandwich Education Foundation believes in educational enrichment through community support. The Foundation supports, promotes, supplements, and enriches the educational programs and activities of students and develops links with businesses, civic organizations, and government.

Fox Valley Older Adult Services provides for older adults in the counties of DeKalb, LaSalle, and Kendall. Their purpose is to encourage and enable older adults to remain in their homes and communities in their later years.

The Sandwich Fair has been in operation since 1888 and is the final northern Illinois county fair of the season. Each year it begins its five-day run on the Wednesday following Labor Day. It’s an agricultural and family fair with more exhibits than any other Illinois county fair.

The Opera House was built in 1878. Today, the Opera House provides a modern setting for the performing arts. The full season includes classical music, country-western ensembles, student recitals, bluegrass music, dance, & Indian Valley Theatre.
