Mr. Rick Schmitt

Dear Friends and Family of Sandwich CUSD #430:

Welcome to Sandwich Community Unit School District 430. The District encompasses 50+ square miles and is located in northern Illinois about 30 miles southeast of DeKalb and about 60 miles west of Chicago. The Sandwich community has a population of approximately 7,000. Our PreK-12 enrollment is approximately 2,600 students. We have three PreK-3 elementary schools - Lynn G. Haskin, Prairie View and W.W. Woodbury; one 4th–5th intermediate school – Herman E. Dummer; one 6th-8th middle school - Sandwich Middle School; and one 9th – 12th grade high school – Sandwich High School.

Our District continues to celebrate the hard work our students, parents, administrators, and staff provide on a daily basis. Improving education as a whole is the focus of Sandwich CUSD #430. We are proud of our accomplishments and where necessary, accept the challenge to improve.

An ongoing goal is to prepare all students for life long learning and the Board of Education is absolutely committed to parent and community participation and involvement in our schools to help reach and sustain this goal.

The District’s top priority remains student achievement. The District strives each day to keep staff members, families, students and community members informed about the progress made district wide and school by school. While the school report card provides a great deal of information about our schools such as school and student performance, class size, attendance, school finances and more; the data only tells part of the story. Other indicators of school quality important to families are measures of family involvement, safe and orderly schools, a quality staff, community and business involvement and a spirit of cooperation with all taxing bodies.

I hope you enjoy researching the types of information located on our webpage and will consider ways that you can help our schools and students achieve even greater success. Thank you for your support and commitment to quality public education. It is truly a privilege to work within a learning community that values education.

Throughout the 2008-2009 school year, may we continue to work together for the betterment of our schools and community.

Please feel free to e-mail your suggestions for improvement. Best wishes for a successful 2008-2009 school year.

Sincerely,
Rick Schmitt (rkschmit@kidsroe.org)
Superintendent of Schools
