Every year the Sandwich High School Student Council decides upon a certain individual who has played a significant role in the Sandwich community and school system to be honored as the Homecoming Grand Marshal. This year Sandwich High School Student Council is proud to present Mr. Marshall Weeks as Sandwich High School’s 2007 Homecoming Grand Marshal. Mr. Weeks has been teaching and coaching is Sandwich for 27 years, and has helped to enhance the Sandwich School System and community.

Mr. Weeks was born in Mendota, Illinois, and was raised in the town of Rochelle where he served on the street department for a short time after 

college. Mr. Weeks attended the Kishwaukee Junior college for two years, where he was a member a Phi Theta Kappa, an honors fraternity. Afterward, he attended the University of Dubuque as a physical education major, as well as a history minor. There he played Baseball in his Junior year, and Football in his Junior and Senior years. Mr. Weeks would go on to graduate in 1976.

Mr. Weeks arrived in Sandwich in 1980, and has been highly involved with the schools and community ever since. Teaching at both the High School, and Middle School for a period of time, Mr. Weeks has taught U.S. History, World History, Practical Law, World Cultures, Maps and Charts, as well as P.E. His favorite aspect of teaching is the kids, saying that it was too hard to pick out a favorite memory as a teacher because each day is unique.

Mr. Weeks is also extensively involved with Sandwich High School athletics program. He has coached every high school grade level there is for Football, Baseball, and Basketball, as well as being an assistant coach for Lady Indian’s Basketball team. Mr. Weeks was also Sandwich High School’s Athletic Director for a time. He has had some of his teams go on to win tournaments, conference, and titles. Mr. Weeks was also an assistant coach on the football team that went to the 1985 playoffs for the first time. His first love was Football, with Baseball being a close second. He enjoys coaching because of the kids, saying that coaching is unique because it’s more one on one than in the classroom. His favorite memory of coaching is winning the Varsity Baseball Conference for the first time as head coach.

Mr. Weeks has also been an active member of the Sandwich community. He has been involved in organizing the Freedom Day American Legion Baseball Tournament, as well as coaching a baseball pony league team. Mr. Weeks still keeps ties with his hometown church in Rochelle.

The Sandwich High School Student Council is honored to recognize Mr. Marshall Weeks as Sandwich High School’s 2007 Homecoming Grand Marshal because of his dedication to the Sandwich School System and community, as well as the hard work he has done for his students, and athletes. Congratulations Mr. Weeks!
