2A Classroom News

Our class recently went to see Disney on Ice. The show was entitled Princess Wishes. Despite the title, the boys enjoyed the show as much as the girls, especially the dragon and the fireworks. Following the Ice Show the students wrote narratives about their experience.

Our class has been working on the reading strategies of making connections, inferring and questioning. We are understanding and learning how using these strategies helps us become better readers. The students are also excited about reading leveled books and then taking a "reading counts" quiz on the computer. These quizzes are a great check on the students comprehension.

A favorite time of day for many of the students is reading time and literacy center. The students enjoy working at a literacy while I am reading with a small group of children. During this time you might find children listening to books on tape, using leap pads, using computers, reading Big Books, reading poetry, partner reading, using play doh, wikki stix, or magnetic letters to form spelling words, writing stories, or writing letters to name a few activities.
