Classroom News

We are busy learning many things in Mrs. Heinekamp's Kindergarten class. Everyone is doing a great job learning our routines and expectations, as well as how to treat others and being helpful classmates.

In Language Arts, we are working on rhyming words, beginning and ending sounds and letter recognition. We are also learning how to write our first and last names. The children enjoy listening to stories!  A favorite one is We Share Everything in Kindergarten by Robert Munsch.  They also especially enjoy listening to chapter books.  We are currently reading from the Junie B. Jones series.  We are also working on what writers do and learning how to become an author.

In Math, we are working on direction words, counting, sorting, graphing, patterning, number recognition, one to one correspondence, and writing numbers.  The children really enjoy using manipulatives and lots of hands-on activities.

In Science and Social Studies, we have been working on school environment, manners, classroom expectations, and how to get along with others. So far we have focused on All About Me and Friends.  We'll be starting our Apple unit soon.

One of the favorite activities we do each day is Center time.  During Center time the children can choose to work in the housekeeping area, block area, art area, listening/computer area, math area, reading area or writing area.  Other favorite activities include Learning Center, Music (T, Th), and PE.
