News from Mrs. Johnson

If you can talk, you can sing...in tune!

by Stacey Johnson, music teacher

Did you know that singing in tune is a learned behavior?  Just like reading, writing and arithmetic, singing in tune can be learned.  It is a skill that is easily acquired by some children, while others need more coaching and feedback.  Singing well not only enhances self esteem, but is also helpful in brain development.  Everyone has the ability to sing in tune, it just takes practice!  An easy way to have your child practice singing at home is to ask them what songs they sang in music during the week and have them sing the songs for you.  Better yet, have them teach the songs to you.   Below are a few songs that we have sung so far this year, just to get the ball rolling.  Remember that singing well is a learned behavior that can be developed in your child, even if you cannot do it well.  If you have any questions or would like more ideas on how to help your child sing better, please call me at school or email me at johnsons@kidsroe.org
