Superintendent's Office

Dear Friends and Family of Sandwich CUSD #430:

Rick Schmitt, Superintendent

Welcome to Sandwich Community Unit School District 430. The District encompasses 50+ square miles and is located in northern Illinois about 30 miles southeast of DeKalb (NIU) and about 60 miles west of Chicago. The Sandwich community has a population of over 7,500. Our PreK-12 enrollment is approximately 1,970 students.

We have three elementary attendance centers:  Lynn G. Haskin School (PreK-3rd), Prairie View School (K-3rd) and W.W. Woodbury School (K-3rd); one 4th - 5th attendance center: Herman E. Dümmer School; one 6th - 8th attendance center: Sandwich Middle School; and one 9th - 12th attendance center: Sandwich High School.

The District provides a positive learning environment that is student-centered. We are proud of our students, and their successes are a direct result of our learning community working together to address new challenges.

The District continues to offer a solid curriculum along with many student services and extra-curricular activities, and possesses an enthusiastic and cohesive professional staff that works together to maintain an environment conducive to excellence in education. Our emphasis is placed on continual growth and development. The administration, faculty and staff takes advantage of many professional development opportunities, including workshops, seminars, conferences, and graduate courses. Seventy four percent of our certified staff earned advanced degrees and all paraprofessionals are certified. Our teacher retention rate is ninety three percent and other than retirements, our administrative staff retention rate is one hundred percent.

In the end, schools are more than indicators, test results and standards. The Board of Education, administration and staff is genuinely concerned about your student's overall success. I want to encourage you to continue to take an active part in your student's education. Our partnership is critical to the success of your student and I urge you to attend school functions, communicate with your student's teachers, and continue to talk to your student on a daily basis. Together, we can encourage all students to rise to their greatest potentials.

Please visit the District's website at http://www.sandwich430.org or follow us on Twitter @SandwichCUSD430.  While visiting our website, I especially encourage you to peruse our District Dashboard located on our front page.  The purpose of the Dashboard is to share the overall successes our learning community is experiencing; while also serving as an impetus to seek additional ways all stakeholders can participate in helping our schools and students achieve even greater success.  Our partnership is critical to the success of our students; and together, our communities can encourage all students to rise to their greatest potentials.

I hope you enjoy researching the types of information located on our web-page and will consider ways that you can help our schools and students achieve even greater success.
